Bout of Books 11 Read-a-Thon - Wrap-Up

Another Bout of Books Read-a-Thon comes to an end. Congratulations survivors. We made it! As usual, I enjoyed the read-a-thon. Not only I received so many comments from wonderful people as this was my best Bout of Books to date. My goals were:
  1. To read every day;
  2. To participate in two challenges;
  3. To write at least one blog post per day.
I did read every day. I participate in two challenges - in fact, I participate in every challenge. And I did write a blog post per day. I'm so happy and proud!

About my readings:
  • I read every book I propose myself to at the beginning of the Bout of Books. I'm so happy that I read six books in seven days. I believe it is a new record for me.
  • The day I read more was August 19th (Tuesday) and the day I read less was August 18th (Monday). On Tuesday I read 340 pages and on Monday I read 200 pages
  • From August 18th to August 24th I read 1744 pages from six different books (three physical books and three ebooks).
Here is a photo of the books I read (the covers belong to the ebooks).

About the challenges:
Bout of Books 11 Read-a-Thon Compared to  Bout of Books 10 Read-a-Thon
  • During Bout of Books 10 I read 483 pages which means that I read more 1251 pages in Bout of Books 11. I just can't believe that I read so much more than last time.
  • In Bout of Books 10 I participated in 5 out of 9 challenges (55,6%) and in Bout of Books 11 I participated in 10 out of 10 challenges (100%). I participated in more challenges in this Read-a-Thon.
  • Bout of Books 11 Read-a-Thon went a lot better than Bout of Books 10 Read-a-Thon. Not only I read a lot more as I also participated in every challenge.
My Progress & Challenges

Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving lovely comments. I'm planning to participate in Bout of Books 12 Read-a-Thon. Hopefully, we will all meet again there. Goodbye. :)

Challenge(s): 5 Books hosted by Falling Down the Book Hole

To give you a break between all the reading here is a challenge for you to complete about 5 books you would want with you as the end of the world is coming! Here is the scenario! I hope you enjoy the challenge!
It is 11:00 PM on a Sunday night. You are laying in bed thinking about all of the things you must do the next day. Tasks of the coming days consume your thoughts and while your mind is somewhere else you are caught off guard by a flash in the sky that is followed by a large wailing screech that pierces the air and shatters your bedroom window. Slowly you move to the window and what you see catches your breathe and causes you to stumble back a few steps. The aliens (at least you think they are aliens) have began to enter the city and destroy everything that is in their path. Through the window your view is consumed with destruction, screaming people and large flames that are dancing across the city at a fast pace. You notice that the creatures are heading in your direction and you realize you probably have about fifteen minutes before they reach your home. That means you have only about ten minutes to gather your belongings and escape before you are caught in the attack from the aliens invading the city.
Given the short amount of time you are only able to take 5 books with you. What books would you pick to take with you as you escape and prepare for the end of the world. Would you choose books that would help you survive in the post-apocalyptic world ,books for pleasure that would make you happy and take you to a fantasy reality or books that you can’t live without?

"Heart's Blood" by Juliet Marillier because it is one of my favourite books. It has a special place in my bookshelf; in my heart. I could never leave it behind. If the end of the world was coming, I would need a book to comfort me.

"Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen because I had to take a least one of the classics. And, let's face it, I could never leave Mr. Darcy behind. Aliens, stay away from Mr. Darcy!

"The Boy With the Cuckoo-Clock Heart" by Mathias Malzieu to remind me of life. This "fairy tale to Tim Burton fans" gives so much feels. The lesson it teaches could be useful if the world as I knew was going to change.

"The Eye of the World" by Robert Jordan because of all its epicness. I it wasn't this book, I wouldn't have read "A Game of Thrones" (which I love and would be very painful to leave it for the aliens). Also, if I felt cold, I has many pages to make a warm bonfire (as painful it would also be to rip its pages).

"Allison Hewitt is Trapped" by Madeleine Roux in case I needed some ideas of how to survive in a post- apoctolyptic world. Aliens aren't zombies, but you never know what to expect. Is a nice guide - first thing to do, is to find an axe.

Or I could always only take my Kobo. It's easy to pack, has tons of books and makes it easier to bring with me my four adorable cats. :)

Challenge(s): Recreate a Book Cover hosted by Spines and Covers

For this challenge, all you have to do is directly link to a cover that you have recreated.  Any genre or book can be used. Also, remember, it isn’t about being an artist. It is about creativity and FUN!!!!

When was the last time I draw? Oh, right more than four years ago...This draw is did for the cover is pretty awful, but after hours erasing draws I just wasn't in the mood of doing it. So, here is goes this awful cover.

You must link four books by using the last word of the previous title to the first word of the next one. To start, pick a book (ANY book; your choice!) and start linking! A, An, and The don't count, so if your book starts with one of those, just use the next word. To make this challenge tougher, you can decide to only use books you've read within the last twelve months - but that's not a requirement.

I didn't participate in the giveaway because it is only to US residents, but I did realize the challenge. Here it goes:

Girl of Nigthmares
Nigthmares Enchanted
Enchanted Delirium
Delirium (the) Elite

Bout of Books 11 Read-a-Thon - August 21st

Pages read today: 220 pages of "Girl of Nightmares"
Total of pages read: 956 pages
Books read today: "Girl of Nightmares"
Books read:"Enchanted" by Alethea Kontis
"Delirium" by Lauren Oliver

Challenge(s): Like This, Try This hosted by Writing My Own Fairy Tale

For my challenge, I decided to do a Like This, Try This challenge. It’s pretty self-explanatory. The rules are as follows: You must recommend a book based on another book, movie, tv show, etc similar to this: “If you liked _____, you should try _____ because _____.”Any genre and reading level is fine and you may use any set-up you like, so long as you’re recommending a book based on something else and explaining why.

If you liked "Delirum" by Lauren Oliver...
  • try "Matched" by Ally Condie. Both main characters live in a dystopian community where every move is controlled by the government and love isn't a choice.
If you liked "Heart's Blood" by Juliet Marillier...
  • try "Enchanted" by Alethea Kontis because both are beautiful retellings of fairy tales with lots and lots of magic.
  • try "Red Riding Hood" (2011) because not only both are retelllings od fairy takes as the main characters face many mysteries and fight for their love.

Bout of Books 11 Read-a-Thon - August 20th

Pages read today: 266 pages of "Delirium" & 30 pages of "Girl of Nightmares"
Total of pages read: 736 pages
Books read today: "Delirium" & "Girl of Nightmares"
Books read:"Enchanted" by Alethea Kontis
"Delirium" by Lauren Oliver

Challenge(s): Create a Sentece hosted by Book Reviews from Christian Gal

The challenge is my twist on the book spine sentence challenge.  For this challenge, I want you to pick some awesome books out and make a sentence with the first two words from each of your books.  I have tried this myself and it can be a little tricky because the lack of verbs in the first two words of the book.  Therefore, you can add another word that is not from the first two words of the books if you wish.  The more ridiculous, the better.

My name, it has the Angeles, I think.

For this confusing sentence, I used the following books:
  • "Enchanted" by Alethea Kontis
  • "Delirium" by Lauren Oliver
  • "Girl of Nightmares" by Kendare Blake
  • "The Elite" by Kiera Cass

Pages read today: 105 pages of "Enchanted" & 235 pages of "Delirium"

Challenge(s): Book Spine Poetry hosted by My Little Pocketbooks

What are the rules?
1.  Minimum of 3 books and no maximum.
2.  All words in title of the book go toward your poem
3.  Take a picture of your poem and type it out so we can read it.
4.  Post it to your blog, Facebook, Twitter or wherever.
5.  Fill out the rafflecopter to enter the giveaway.
6.  Add your URL to the linky below.

Extra Rules
I know it is not easy making sense with some of the books on your self so to make it a bit easier I will give you 1 FREE WORD for every book in your poem.
1 Book = 1 FREE Word
The FREE word can be anything you want.  A noun, verb, pronoun.  Anything at all! You don't have to use FREE Words and you don't have to use all of them just don't exceed them.

I think I already wrote this before, but I'm really bad at poetry. I know the poem doesn't have to rhyme or make sense, but I tried my best for it to make sense - at least, a bit of sense. So, here it goes:

After Daybreak,

You, Girl of Nightmares,

My alluring Delirium,

Enchanted my Dreams.

One True Pairing hosted by Infinite Ink

For this challenge, I want to hear all about your favorite literary OTP.  Tell me why you ship them.  Tell me how perfect they are for each other.  Vent about how frustrating it is that the author paired them with other people.  Give me proof about why they are actually canon, but nobody knows.  I want to hear it all.

I don’t have one favourite OTP. There are so many parings that I absolutely adore, that it wouldn’t be fair to choose one. Their stories and the struggles are so different... Mercy and Adam. MacKayla and Jericho Barrows. Caitrin and Anluan. Katniss and Peeta. Laurel and Tamini. Even Harry and Hermione, who were never meant to be (don’t hate me, please).

But then there is this OTP that has a special place: Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. When Pride meets Prejudice is their relationship that we have, the most complicated and breathtaking relationship ever. And at the moment that pride and prejudice are forgotten their love is truly amazing; it is the most beautiful love story ever. They are so alike!

Darcy did everything for Elizabeth even after she refused him. As Elizabeth said “only the deepest love will persuade me into matrimony”.  Darcy won Elizabeth’s deepest love after all the misunderstandings, after all the lies, after the vanity, after the pride, after all the prejudices! They were able to really see each other and accept their love. These two have an epic love story; their love is timeless. Without Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, how many OTP wouldn’t exist?

My challenge is a simple one. A playlist. Make a playlist. Make a playlist centered around at least ONE of the books you plan on reading during the read-a-thon. One playlist per book. (meaning: you cannot dedicate one playlist to two different books). Because this is a very simple challenge, you need to have at LEAST 5 songs on your playlist. Be as specific or as vague in your selections as you wish, but have FUN with it!

My book is "Enchanted" by Alethea Kontis, which I'm currently reading. I haven't read much yet, but I think these songs fit the chapters I've read.
  1. "The First Kiss" by George Fenton
  2. "Love Story" by Taylor Swift
  3. "Pieces" by Red
  4. "The Lonely" by Christina Perry
  5. "The Loved Ones" by Sanders Bohlke

Bout of Books 11 Read-a-Thon - My Goals

My goals for Bout of Books 11 Read-a-Thon are:
  1. To read every day;
  2. To participate in two challenges;
  3. To write at least one blog post per day.
Choosing some books to read during this challenge was a very difficult task. I've sooooooo many books that I want to read, but there isn't enough time to read them all! To make my task easier I've decided only to read books in English. I probably won't read all of these books, but I'll do my best.

"Enchanted" by Alethea Kontis
"Delirium" by Lauren Oliver
"Girl of Nightmares" by Kendare Blake

"The Elite" and "The One" by Keira Cass
"UnWind" by Neal Shusterman

And now, let the read-a-thon begin. Good luck! :)
