Monthly Wrap-Up. July

Goodbye July. Thank you for all the good things you brought. 😊 I'm happy to say that July did not fly by and I ended up asking myself "is it August yet?". My country has fewer restrictions regarding the pandemic, but I still spend most of my days at home, bothering my cats and writing essays/abstracts, so time goes by slowly. Of course, I was expecting a more productive in July, but the temperatures were so high that I was barely functional for two weeks. I'm not ready for another heatwave.

This month in my life:

🌻 I celebrated my birthday! 🥳 I got some nice books that I can't wait to read.
🌻 Today would be the 16th anniversary of my Luna. 💛
🌻 Binge watched Locke & Key and the first season of Timeless -- I'm halfway through the second season now. I also finished watching the first season of The Handmaid's Tale (must read the book asap) and the second season of UnReal.
🌻 I sold my first throw pillow at Redbubble.
🌻 I'm starting to think that five books per month are all I can read these days. How will I meet my Goodreads goal of seventy books?! Maybe a slow August will help me. I have already planned a long reading list that includes fun books aka books I will read because I want to and thesis books aka books I mus read to write the introduction and the first chapter of my thesis.
🌻 However, August will be very stressful. I'm still waiting for the results of the fellowship I applied to (let me just say that at this point my hopes are bellow zero) and I'm not sure I will concentrate on reading.
🌻 I'm officially a PhD candidate.🥳

  • Is it okay to do the Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag in July? Because I definitely did it. Take a look at it if you wish to know my favourite books so far, my most anticipated releases for the second half of the year, my biggest surprise, and so on.
  • I shared my review of Incendiary by Zoraida Córdova. I finished Incendiary a long time ago and it took me some time to write my review because I had no words to describe how much I adored this re-imagining of the Spanish Inquisition and its main character, the fearless Renata Convida.
These are all the books I got in July. 😍 I already shared my thoughts on Fable, Queen of the Conquered, and The Wolf of Oren-Yearo on my first Sunday Post of the month and Thorn, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and Unravel the Dusk are part of my b-day book haul. I got Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado (my first 2021 e-ARC) and The Bitterwine Oath by Hannah West through Edelweiss. No, I didn't send a request to the publisher and it was accepted. These two amazing books can be found at the "to download" section. If you are interested in them, GO! Ps. Last Tuesday, after gushing about The Bitterwine Oath, I took a look at Edelweiss just for fun and I found it on the "download now" section. I could not believe I had missed it!

How was your July? Did you get yourself new books?

  1. I always check those "download now" books, you never know what gems could be in there. You have a massive amount of stuff going on in August. I really only read, work, and play Animal Crossing, which is more or less what I did before the pandemic, but now I only leave my home about twice a month to shop. Congrats on the sale and I am keeping all my fingers crossed for you as you await the news of your fellowship

Omg, so many good-looking books in your haul! omg THORN! I keep forgetting about it but I NEED to get my hands on it! I've heard great things about it and I am trash for Goose Girl retellings!
And eek, the mid-year freak out tag! I still haven't done it, so I guess I'll be doing it super late in August haha!
Hopefully August doesn't end up being too stressful for you and good luck on your thesis!

  11. Happy belated Birthday! Books make the best gifts. I am averaging about five books a month as well. I ended up lowing my Goodreads a couple of years ago and it has taken the pressure off. I really want to read Fat Chance, Charlie Vega. Hope you enjoy!

  12. Happy belated birthday! I felt the same in July as well. It didn't fly by. Probably because it got so hot here I felt like I had a lot I didn't do outside like I'd wanted. I meant to do the Mid-Year Freak Out tag in July but never got around to it. Oh well. Maybe later. Fat Chance, Charlie Vega just went on my TBR a week or so ago as well! Hopefully August is better for us all. We are currently having unseasonably cool weather right now. I'm loving the early taste of fall, although it is supposed to get back up in the 90s by the end of the week.

  18. Happy birthday month! Best of luck with your PhD! You do have lots on your plate with trying for a fellowship too. I hope you don't stress over your Goodreads goal--we set these at the beginning of the year before we know what the world throws at us. I enjoyed seeing the covers of the books you hauled for the month.
